Milang was a significant port on the Murray River System between 1860 & 1880, when wool from the Darling and Upper Murray stations was transported by paddle steamer to it and then onto Port Adelaide by horse and bullock teams. Wheat was also transported to Milang, to be processed at its flour mills and then shipped back as flour.
The favourite local pastimes include swimming, fishing, water sports, and boating. Milang is also home to the famous Milang to Goolwa yacht race, and unique colourful shacks of the Lake foreshore.
The Milang township is only a few minutes away and boasts retail shops, hotel, Post Office, school, community centre, bowling club, tennis courts, bakery, churches, motel and caravan park. The main town centre of Strathalbyn and the famous Langhorne Creek Wine District are both only around 20 minutes away by road, and the Adelaide CBD is a comfortable 60 minutes drive via the South Eastern Freeway.
